How to read the waiting-time table

The official measure is the estimated time from eligibility to a booking invitation at the end of the month. It does not report every applicant's place in the queue, the first date offered after an invitation, or cancellations currently visible in MyRoadSafety.

Use the figures to compare broad pressure between realistic centres. For your own application, your permit status, EDT records, application date and RSA account remain more relevant than the national average.

Why a centre's figure may move

A waiting-time estimate can change when demand, tester capacity and the number of eligible applicants change. One month is therefore best treated as a current comparison, not a permanent ranking of centres.

Dublin illustrates why local comparison matters. Its published centres span a wide range, so a county-level average cannot describe every Dublin applicant. The same principle applies wherever several centres serve one county.

A practical way to choose centres

1. Check eligibility firstConfirm that your learner permit and required EDT records are in order before relying on a queue estimate.
2. Build a workable shortlistInclude your preferred centre and nearby alternatives that you can reach, practise around and attend with a suitable vehicle.
3. Compare current contextUse this monthly table alongside the RSA's information for your own application.
4. Decide your real date limitsKnow the earliest and latest dates that work before you react to an appointment.
5. Use MyRoadSafety for bookingThe RSA controls invitations, dates and appointment changes. This independent service does not create test slots.

Waiting for an invitation versus moving a booked test

An invitation wait and a cancellation are different parts of the process. The table describes how long an eligible applicant may wait for the opportunity to book. Notify and AutoBook are for people who already have enough booking information to define a useful earlier date.

The centre figures come from the official CSO driving test waiting-time dataset. The national figure is cross-checked against the county and national dataset. Both were updated on 6 August 2026.
