It can suit you if the test car needs confirming, your work pattern changes or you want to see every appointment before committing. Keep your phone nearby when you can act, and make sure you can access your booking account.

The trade-off is response time. An alert does not reserve the appointment, so an opening may have gone when you reach it. Only choose a date that actually works; being earlier is not enough if you cannot attend.

AutoBook: authorise a change within your settings

AutoBook is for learners who are comfortable authorising the service to reschedule a suitable existing appointment when a match is found. Your date, time and centre preferences define what counts as acceptable.

Complete the required MyRoadSafety setup after payment and take care with those choices. Do not include next Tuesday if you will be working all day, or a centre where you cannot arrange a car. A broad search is only helpful when you would genuinely accept its results.

This option can reduce the need for you to perform the final booking action when an opening is found. It cannot create appointments or promise that the booking system will complete a change. Keep an eye on your account and official confirmation rather than treating a search preference as a new appointment.

A quick way to choose between them

• You need to check with your instructor each time: Notify is usually the more practical starting point.
• Your car and attendance dates are already agreed: review AutoBook and its authorisation requirements.
• You are often unable to respond to messages: consider whether a managed change fits, rather than assuming an unread alert will be enough.
• You are not sure which dates you can take: settle that first, whichever plan you choose.
